Hello

I am a lecturer and researcher in Criminology, with a particular interest in hate crime, victimisation, criminal justice, and the relationship between public perceptions and institutional responses to crime. My academic work focuses on how individuals recognise and interpret criminal behaviour, identify prejudice, and decide whether to report incidents to the authorities.

My doctoral research at the University of Surrey explores hate crime perceptions and under-reporting across different ethnic groups in England and Wales, drawing on constructivist grounded theory to examine the social and contextual factors shaping these decisions.

Alongside my research, I teach Criminology and related subjects at Fairfields School of Business. My teaching interests include youth justice, criminological theory, social inequalities, and the wider social processes that influence crime and responses to it. I aim to encourage students to think critically, question established assumptions, and connect academic knowledge with contemporary social issues.

I am also interested in applied research and collaboration with criminal justice agencies, community organisations, and policymakers. Through these partnerships, I seek to contribute to a better understanding of victims' experiences, barriers to reporting, and opportunities to improve institutional practices.

My broader academic interests lie in connecting criminological theory, empirical research, and practical responses to social problems, with a particular emphasis on ensuring that research remains relevant to the communities and institutions it seeks to understand.
